What is Arthritis?
Arthritis is a form of joint disorder that involves inflammation of one or more joints. There are over 100 different forms of arthritis. The most common form, osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease), is a result of trauma to the joint, infection of the joint, or age. Other arthritis forms are rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and related autoimmune diseases. Septic arthritis is caused by joint infection. Read More

What is Rheumatoid arthritis?
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disorder in which the body's own immune system starts to attack body tissues. The attack is not only directed at the joint but to many other parts of the body. In rheumatoid arthritis, most damage occurs to the joint lining and cartilage which eventually results in erosion of two opposing bones. Rheumatoid arthritis often affects joints in the fingers, wrists, knees and elbows. The disease is symmetrical (appears on both sides of the body) and can lead to severe deformity in a few years if not treated. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs mostly in people aged 20 and above. What is Osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. It can affect both the larger and the smaller joints of the body, including the hands, feet, back, hip, and knee. The disease is essentially one acquired from daily wear and tear of the joint; however, osteoarthritis can also occur as a result of injury. Osteoarthritis begins in the cartilage and eventually causes the two opposing bones to erode into each other. Initially, the condition starts with minor pain during activities, but soon the pain can be continuous and even occur while in a state of rest. The pain can be debilitating and prevent one from doing some activities. Read More

What is Gout?
Gout is caused by deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint, causing inflammation. There is also an uncommon form of gouty arthritis caused by the formation of rhomboid crystals of calcium pyrophosphate known as pseudogout. In the early stages, the gouty arthritis usually occurs in one joint, but with time, it can occur in many joints and be quite crippling. Read More

What is Infectious Arthritis?
It is another severe form of arthritis. It presents with sudden onset of chills, fever and joint pain. The condition is caused by bacteria elsewhere in the body. Infectious arthritis must be rapidly diagnosed and treated promptly to prevent irreversible and permanent joint damage. Read More

How Shoulder Replacement is Done?
Shoulder replacement is done in various ways; the traditional Hemiarthroplasty (Neer's prosthesis) , total shoulder replacement and the newer surface replacement. In the traditional shoulder replacement, the diseased ball and the surface of the socket are removed and replaced with artificial components. These can be fixed either with a type of glue known as bone cement or without any such material and bone is allowed to incorporate in the specially made components. In surface replacement which is meant for younger patients, very minimal bone is removed from the shoulder bone

Why Knee Arthroscopy is performed?
Arthroscopy of the knee is usually performed to diagnose and treat internal knee problems such as cartilage injuries, meniscal tears, loose bodies, arthritis and a lead up for ligament damage surgery. Arthroscopy is a "key-hole" Surgery in which 2.4-4mm size tiny Fibre optic Telescope is inserted into the joint which is then attached to Camera to visualize on TV Monitor. Simple arthroscopy procedures are carried out in hospital as a Day Case. But in case of Ligament Reconstruction/Repair (ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL) you may require an overnight stay. Read More

What is Frozen Shoulder?
Frozen shoulder is also called adhesive capsulitis. It is a common condition which is characterized by pain and restricted motion in the shoulder. The exact cause of the condition is unknown; it usually starts spontaneously without any prior accident. It usually occurs from middle age and onward and is very common in people with diabetes, Thyroid diseases, Hypertension and in women. Read More

What is Shoulder impingement ?
Shoulder impingement is a common condition of pain in the shoulder due to irritation of a fluid sac and the rotator cuff tendons underneath it. It frequently occurs with a 'spur' of bone under the point of the shoulder. The pain may restrict the ability to raise or rotate the arm. Treatment may include rest, injections, physiotherapy and surgery. Read More

What is Rotator Cuff?
The shoulder joint consists of a ball and socket, held together with loose ligaments and surrounded by a cloak of tendons called the rotator cuff. There are 4 of these, and they work to keep the ball centred in the socket and help to move the arm in certain directions. Above the rotator cuff tendons is a fluid sac call the bursa which lies between these tendons and the arch of bone forming the point of the shoulder (the acromion). Making up part of this arch is a ligament called the CA ligament. Read More
